(FORT LAUDERDALE) – Kolter Urban, one of Florida’s leading residential development firms, along with representatives of the Hyatt Centric® hotel, gathered a select group of key business and city leaders to preview the iconic design of 100 Las Olas, the newest and tallest building in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Kolter leadership and the architectural team showcased the building’s unique architectural design elements at the private event which limited attendance due to COVID 19 protocols.
Standing 499 feet tall, 100 Las Olas is an iconic new addition to Fort Lauderdale’s popular Las Olas Boulevard dining and entertainment district. The building is home to a 238-room Hyatt Centric® hotel is the first new hotel in Downtown Fort Lauderdale in nearly 50 years. Attendees previewed the Harborwood Urban Kitchen and Bar at the ground level and the Elev8 poolside bar located on the 8th level hotel pool deck where the exclusive event was held. Eddie V’s Prime Seafood is also set to open later this month. Above the hotel, 113 luxury condominiums are over 70% sold, with prices starting at just under $1 million.
“Today, we finally welcome city leaders to 100 Las Olas. Although we delayed the event to ensure proper safety protocols, we believe it’s an important to commemorate the completion of this landmark building,” says Bob Vail, President of Kolter Urban. “100 Las Olas was designed to celebrate Fort Lauderdale’s unique landscape and vibrant culture. It has already become a thriving hub of activity for our residents who have an appreciation for the walkable urban lifestyle of Las Olas Boulevard.”
$38 MILLION SOLD IN THREE MONTHS
At the event held Thursday evening, 100 Las Olas was celebrated as a dynamic new addition to the downtown corridor. As the tallest building in Fort Lauderdale, the community has generated $38 million in sales over the past three months. Its completion now connects the parks. arts and culture of the Andrews Avenue sector to the world-renown Las Olas Boulevard dining and shopping district.
SB Architects designed the 45-story tower to fully embrace the Las Olas tradition of public/pedestrian interaction. The building facade features floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, generous enclosed balconies, and an ample number of windows for greater transparency, views and a slender shape. The building’s parking garage is artfully concealed behind a mix of opaque and textured screens made of perforated metal panels and louvers.
In the evening, a large translucent glass cylinder at the crown of the building glows from all sides as the tower is capped by a framework of oversized beams that functionally define the enclosure of the building’s mechanical equipment.
AN ARTISAN’S TOUCH
Throughout the design of 100 Las Olas, Kolter Urban incorporated artistic components that reflect the area’s waterfront location and its rich appreciation of arts and culture. At the hotel entrance, a map of the downtown corridor has been sculpted in metal providing a functional and interesting showcase of the project’s walkable location.
Kolter Urban commissioned local artisan Danny Doya to create “Damarena – The Maiden of the Sea”, a mural composition showcased at the Elev8 pool deck. The artwork is the personification of the elegance of Fort Lauderdale’s oceans and riverfronts, celebrating the nautical nuances of a maiden voyage while exploring the ever-fascinating spirals of the Fibonacci nautilus. Doya describes his vision, “I worked to harmonize oceanic themes with the sharp design and a vibrant color aesthetic to not only compliment the architecture of The Hyatt Centric, but also recapitulate the beauty and diversity here in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.”
CONTEMPORARY RESIDENTIAL AMBIENCE
Kolter Urban’s practice of delivering move-in ready residences has contributed to the success of its extensive portfolio of lifestyle communities throughout the southeast. Interior selections and residence finish packages were preselected by Bob Martin of The Decorator’s Unlimited, headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens. The sleek modern interiors compliment the curvilinear terraces that showcase the panoramic views of the Fort Lauderdale skyline and waterways. Sleek and sophisticated design is evident in the oversized tile flooring, European-styled designer kitchens and spacious living areas that take full advantage of the abundant natural light from the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors.
The mixed-use tower offers an unparalleled roster of amenities for the private condominium residences including a 16th level rooftop pool and cabanas, a Residents Lounge, Fitness Center and News Room. The building is located directly across the street from the NSU Museum of Modern Art and adjacent to Bubier Park. This prime location on Las Olas Boulevard is within walking distance of more than 40 dining venues and the famed downtown Riverwalk.
THE CULIMINATION OF A KOLTER’S VISION
“We want to thank Gavin Thomas and our construction team for bringing the project to life,” Vail adds. “The building is Kolter’s first entry in the Fort Lauderdale market, and it’s a tremendous addition to the downtown corridor. We’re thrilled to showcase the work of our designers, architects and trades people who dedicated themselves to the project. The Hyatt Centric is a great place for visitors to experience this enviable lifestyle, and we believe many guests may decide to make Fort Lauderdale their permanent home.”
